Defenders of Heritage

Ukrainian volunteers place sandbags around the Princess Olga monument in Mykhailivska Square (Saint Michael’s Square) in Kyiv, Ukraine. Russian missile attacks on the center of Kyiv were on the rise leading many to take action to protect and preserve historical monuments including statues and places of worship. During the first weeks of the war in March this became a common occurrence throughout Ukrainian cities including Lviv and Odessa.
